Police and Ambulance are attending a one vehicle crash along SH1 in the vicinity of where it intersects with SH29, south of the Tauranga turnoff and past the Karapiro straights.
The vehicle was found to be half parked on the roadside barrier and Police are now investigating the circumstances leading up to it.
The lone male occupant was located underneath the vehicle and is now being transported to the Waikato Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Initial witness accounts indicates that the driver aged in his 30's was thrown from his vehicle on impact.
The roadway has been reduced to one lane and Police will continue to monitor traffic flow which currently is considered light.
Diversions will be set up if needed.
