Theatre Royal Gala Opening Celebration

Tickets for the Theatre Royal Gala Opening Celebration will now go on sale next week.

They were to be on sale from today (April 21) but Theatre Establishment Manager Guy Boyce says sales are being held back for a few days while plans for the Gala Variety Concert are finalised.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response from local theatre and music groups wanting to be part of this concert, and to do it justice we have decided to reschedule it at as a finale to our opening celebrations,” he said. “We’ve got enough talent for a nine hour show, so we’ll be selecting the best from that to stage two separate concerts with a different line up each night to accommodate the acts that deserve a place in the programme.”

Mr Boyce said the rescheduling the concert would also allow for rehearsals to be held on stage in the Theatre Royal when it re-opened on May 31st.

Seat sponsors who have already bought preferential tickets for the Gala Variety Concert, which was to have been held on June 2 and 3, will be able to swap these for the new dates or have their money refunded.

“There is a lot of interest in seeing the refurbished theatre and in the line-up of acts we have booked for the Gala Opening Celebrations,” Mr Boyce said. “The programme brochure will be inserted in the Nelson Mail next week and will be widely available around the city as well.”

The Theatre Royal Gala Opening Celebration will now run from May 31 to June 13. More information about the programme, ticket sales and about joining the Royal Family of theatre supporters is available at www.theatreroyalnelson.co.nz . Tickets will be on sale next week at Everyman in Hardy St.
