RNZAF Iroquois Incident

RNZAF Iroquois Incident

It is with deep regret that the acting Chief of Defence Force, Vice Chief of Defence Force, Rear Admiral Jack Steer, can confirm that three members of the New Zealand Defence Force have died as a result of injuries sustained following the crash of a Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois helicopter.

A fourth NZDF person has sustained serious injuries and we are currently in the process of establishing their status.

The helicopter from No. 3 SQN based at Ohakea Air Force Base was en route to Anzac commemorations in Wellington.

Next of kin have been informed or are in the process of being informed of the tragic deaths of these young people in the service of the NZ Defence Force.

There will be a press conference later in the day giving more information on this incident and a statement on this will follow.
