Woman Charged With Arson

A woman has appeared in court charged in relation to a fire that destroyed a family home in Bunnythorpe in April this year.

The incident happened on Monday, 12 April, in Waughs Road, Bunnythorpe. A couple in their 40s woke to the sound of breaking glass around 1.30am. They managed to escape with three female children who were also in the house, before the fire took hold and destroyed the home. No-one was injured.

A police investigation resulted today in the arrest of a 28-year-old woman from Tasman District. She appeared in Nelson District Court charged with arson and attempting to pervert the course of justice and has been remanded in custody to reappear on 29 July.
