Auckland GP pleads Guilty

Auckland GP Hongsheng Kong today pleaded guilty to ten charges of falsifying records and six charges of fraudulently using a document to obtain advantage representing $345,000. This sum represents 38,000 fraud transactions.
The court case has ended after a five week trial. The Ministry of Health has welcomed the outcome.

Auckland District Health Board is pursuing separate legal action to recover funds fraudulently claimed by Dr Kong.

The Crown Solicitor is considering whether to appeal the decision by the court to dismiss one charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice

Ministry spokesperson Michael Moore says the Ministry takes any misuse of money very seriously. .Mr Moore says the Ministry is very aware that the vast majority of all health professionals are honest and carry out their duties and work with considerable integrity, but where this isn't the case the Ministry does act
