Wellington Police Searching For Good Samaritan
Wellington Police are searching for a good Samaritan who prevented a woman from a potentially nasty attack recently.
Around 9am on Friday 27th August, a 35 year old woman was walking to work near the Wesley Wellington Methodist Church at 75 Taranaki Street, when she was grabbed by a man and dragged a short distance along the ground.
Detective Constable Lee Underhill says at that point a good samaritan came to the victim's aid and managed to push the offender away from the victim. The offender then fled towards Taranaki Street.
"This man has prevented what could have been a very serious attack and potential abduction. Police are keen to find him to help us with our enquiries into the attack and we urge him to come forward."
The victim was left with bruising and was severely shaken as a result of the incident.
Detective Constable Underhill says the offender is described as a Maori or Pacific Islander, aged under 30 years, of stocky to medium build about 6 foot tall. He wore particularly baggy clothes, including black trousers and a black hooded sweater concealing his face.
Anyone with any information should phone Police immediately on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
