Wellington Police Seek Witnesses To City Assault

Wellington Police are looking for witnesses to an assault in the city last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller says at about 10-30pm, a group of people had an altercation outside a party on Tasman Street.

"Two males from this group have then got into a fight on the road and one has been knocked to the ground."

DSS Miller says the victim has been hospitalised and is in a serious but stable condition.

"There would have been people in the vicinity of Tasman Street last night who may have witnessed this assault, either in their vehicles or on foot. We urge those people to contact us as soon as possible."

He says a large number of witnesses have been spoken to today but Police want to hear from anyone who may have useful information.

A man has been charged with assault and will appear in the Wellington District Court tomorrow.
