West Auckland Burglars Arrested
West Auckland Burglars Arrested
Waitakere Police have arrested two men at the scene of a two car crash at the intersection of Forrest Hill and Kellys Road in suburban West Auckland.
Police say the crash happened at about 0953 hours this morning Wednesday 15 September 2010 while the two men were fleeing from an alleged burglary that had taken place in Titirangi a short time before.
The two male offenders were traveling in a stolen vehicle – the silver RAV-4 was stolen in Auckland City on 17 August 2010 and was actively being sought by Police. The vehicle was sighted on Forrest Hill Road and it subsequently crashed head-on into a Ford Courier Utility.
One of the occupants in the stolen car has moderate injuries. The sole male occupant in the second vehicle has some minor rib and leg injuries. They are each receiving medical treatment.
The Waitematä Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and motorists are being asked to avoid the area. Diversions are in place. It is anticipated that the roads in the immediate affected area will be closed for several hours.
The two men were earlier disturbed by the occupants of a house in South Titirangi Road at about 0942 hours. Both offenders are now assisting Waitakere CIB with their enquiries.
