Fly Time for Ronald McDonald House Auckland Families

Summit Quinphos helps buy fly time for Ronald McDonald House Auckland families

7 December 2010

Families needing help to be close to their sick children being treated at Auckland’s Starship Hospital whilst staying at the Ronald McDonald House Auckland over Christmas can take advantage from the Fly Buys donation from Summit Quinphos.

The fertiliser and animal nutrition specialist has topped up Fly Buys donations made by its customers across New Zealand to gift the Ronald McDonald House 20,000 Fly Buys points for use on local flights and replace toys and equipment at the house for children and their families.

Families can stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their child is recovering to help the recovery process.

Willie Thomson, Summit Quinphos general manager, said the aim was to support as many families as possible to get to Auckland over the festive season to encourage the recuperation of their children, who arrive for specialist treatment from all over New Zealand.

“Our rural customers earn Fly Buys points for their loyalty when they buy our fertiliser and animal nutrient products throughout the year, and they have the option of donating those points directly to our charity card.

“Each year we look to find the best way of utilising those gifted points. When the Ronald McDonald House was suggested this year, Summit Quinphos decided to boost the total of Fly Buys points up to 20,000 in recognition of the good work done there.”

Mr Thomson presented an over-sized Fly Buys cheque at the Ronald McDonald fundraising pantomime show “Santa’s Xmas Dilemma” this week at the Logan Campbell Theatre in Greenlane.

“The Ronald McDonald House Auckland kids and staff are absolutely fantastic. It is a real privilege and pleasure to pass on this donation on behalf of all of our customers. I hope those that were kind enough to donate points to our charity account are pleased with the news of this donation.”

Summit Quinphos also hosted 10 disadvantaged children to attend the pantomime.

The Fly Buys will be used to access Air New Zealand domestic flights and be able to replace toys and equipment for children and their families at the Ronald McDonald House Auckland.

Fred Alder, a trustee of Southern Stars Charitable Trust, one of the fundraising charities for Ronald McDonald House, said the donation would make a real difference to the wellbeing of a number of sick children over the difficult festive season.

“It is great that companies such as Summit Quinphos look outside of their own business world to see how they can make an impact elsewhere. I thank all those Summit Quinphos customers who saw fit to spread a little joy and to Summit Quinphos for topping up the donation.”
