Auckland Council allocates remaining remuneration funds

16 December 2010

The Auckland Council allocated the remaining funds it had available from the Remuneration Authority’s remuneration pool at its meeting today.

The independent Remuneration Authority has the responsibility for determining the remuneration of elected local body members.

The Authority set initial levels for councillor remuneration before the election.

It indicated that part of the funding pool available to the Auckland Council would be retained for allocation before 31 January 2011 once the council had decided on its structure and the responsibilities of individual members so it could adequately recompense those members who have additional responsibilities.

The Authority has made available the remaining $200,000 from the Auckland Council remuneration pool and this was allocated in the following way:

Role Number Former remuneration New remuneration Increase Total
Deputy mayor 1 $80,000 $120,000 $40,000 $40,000
Chairpersons (Committee of the whole council) 3 $80,000
