A Spectacular Sight- 800 Navy Personnel on Parade
An impressive sea of white will cover the Ngataringa Bay Sports Field as personnel from the Royal New Zealand Navy parade at Divisions in front of senior military officers, Defence Attachés and other dignitaries from the local area as well as friends and family.
Formally known as Fleet Divisions, the Royal New Zealand Navy Divisions are a long standing tradition of the Navy, as it is an opportunity for the entire Navy to be reviewed in a formal setting.
The ceremony will commence with the Navy Kapa Haka group welcoming the Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, Governor-General, who will review Divisions. To signify the importance of the parade, the Governor-General will be wearing Navy uniform, the rank of Admiral, which he holds as Commander-in-Chief.
Befitting the occasion, a 21 Gun Salute will be fired from Ngataringa Sports Field and there will be a flypast by Seasprite Helicopters. It is also the time for a number of awards to be presented including The Monowai Trophy for Operational Excellence, The Naval Support Command Efficiency Trophy and Sailor of the Year 2010.
