Great Barrier Search - Two Persons Found

Great Barrier Search - Two Persons Found

Auckland City Police this afternoon located both the male and female who were the subject of a widespread search on Great Barrier Island.

A search and rescue team found the pair an hour ago walking down a bush track in Mason Road on Great Barrier. It was feared the female had been abducted.

A police specialist search and rescue team, three search dogs, members of the Armed Offenders Squad and a team of investigators had been searching on the island for almost 36 hours.

It’s also been confirmed that the male victim who was seriously assaulted at the Claris house has been discharged from hospital but will continue to receive specialist treatment. Police have since taken a statement from him.

The female will be transported by Westpac helicopter to Auckland for a medical checkup. The male is being questioned by police. No arrests have been made.

Police wish to express their appreciation to the local Great Barrier community for their valuable assistance over the duration of the search.
