Waikato Police working in Fiji on a homicide investigation into the death of a South Auckland woman west of Huntly a week ago have interviewed a person of interest to the case.
Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall of the Hamilton CIB said though he couldn't be drawn on details of the interview he could confirm New Zealand officers had spoken to the dead woman's husband.
"The man has not been arrested and no charges have been laid by our staff. We are currently evaluating the various options available to us.
"Our investigation has been benefiting from the full support of not only the Fijian Police but that of other agencies both over there and back here in New Zealand."
Mr Keall said the officers were still in discussions with a variety of parties in relation to the ongoing care and protection of the couple's four-year-old son.
"This remains a key focus our staff working in Fiji."
Mr Keall said while a lot of the media's attention on the case had been on the overseas aspects of the investigation a lot of hard work was still going on closer to home.
"We have investigators working around both the Waikato and Counties Manukau carrying out a variety of enquiries that are all combining to build up a clearer picture of what has happened."
