Motorbike crash leaves one dead.

Dannevirke Police are investigating a serious vehicle crash today which has left one person dead.

The crash occurred at approximately 12.00pm when a Suzuki motorbike heading east on Route 52 near Wimbledon (Herbertville, east of Dannevirke) has lost control after rounding a corner and has crashed through a fence, over a bank and into some trees. The sole rider, a 56 year old Upper Hutt man, died at the scene.

It is very early on in the investigation but all factors including road, speed, alcohol and vehicle tests will be conducted.

No names will be released at this stage until all NOK have been notified.

The Central District Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.
