Netball New Zealand Announces 2011 Events Calendar

Netball New Zealand has today confirmed the 2011 Events Calendar comprising of seven International Tests, the World Netball Championships, the World Netball Series and Netball New Zealand National events.

The Silver Ferns will continue their 2011 campaign for the World Netball Championships in June as they take on arch rivals and Commonwealth Games finalists, the Australian Diamonds in Palmerston North and Auckland as part of the New World International Netball Series. These two games will be the beginning of their quest to not only win gold at the World Championships but to win the Constellation Cup. The final three tests against the Australian Diamonds will determine who wins the new trophy and these will be played after the World Netball Championships on Australian soil.

The 2011 Mission Foods World Netball Championships will be held in Singapore from the 3rd-10th of July – check out http://www.wnc2011.com for more information. The Silver Ferns are in Pool B alongside Trinidad and Tobago, Wales and Fiji.

Post the World Netball Championships the Silver Ferns will have a long-awaited break before they play in a two-test New World International Netball Series against a determined England side in October. Following that, the battle for the Constellation Cup is back on with three tests against the Australian Diamonds in Australia.

Netball New Zealand Chief Executive Raelene Castle says that Netballers from all over New Zealand will have the opportunity to experience top class netball action from February right through to October this year.

“We are especially delighted in a World Championship year to offer the fans ability to see the Silver Ferns playing at home in four international Tests this year in the New World International Series” she said.
