Petrol stations re-opening, refuelling

Operational Status of Christchurch Petrol Stations

23 February 2011

Petrol stations re-opening, refuelling

North Canterbury Federated Farmers is advising that the three major fuel retailers, BP, Caltex and Shell, are reporting many of their stations in the city and in surrounding areas are open or re-opening soon.

Although Port of Lyttleton is out of commission, fuel supplies have been trucked into Christchurch from Timaru. The companies reported there were plenty of supplies also available through Nelson and Dunedin.

Federated Farmers is reminding its members there is no need to resort to panic buying, which would only led to stations running out of fuel before fresh deliveries arrive.

Instead people are urged to refuel only if they need to.

It should be noted the situation is not stable and could change without notice at any time.
