Message Fulton Hogan Staff Working in Christchurch

24 February 2011

To: All Fulton Hogan Staff Working in Christchurch
Message from: Nick Miller, Managing Director

My personal thanks to you all – not just to you as Fulton Hogan staff but also to your parents, partners, children and friends.

These are devastating times and I know many of you will have endured tragedy or suffered loss. There are a number of you who have not been able to return to work because of these factors and our thoughts are with you. I know first hand what you are going through as my family home here in Christchurch has been severely damaged and is uninhabitable.

Despite this loss and destruction, many of you have been able to get back to work and have been unselfish in the way you are giving your time to get Christchurch back on its feet.

Your efforts are not alone. The entire might of Fulton Hogan and our 5000 plus staff are behind you. Already I have been fielding calls from all our offices throughout Australasia looking for ways to assist.

The primary focus in Christchurch in the last few days has rightfully been on the search for those lost in the central city. This will soon move to the wider community and the enormous amount of infrastructure work that will be required to rebuild Christchurch.

From your detailed inspections to date, we estimate that damage to the roading and surface network is in the billions of dollars and many times more than the damage caused on September 4.

Already we are working with government at all levels in planning this next phase. The job ahead is massive, and so will be the expectations on us to return our city to its original splendour. With your support and that of the entire Fulton Hogan team, backed by our 78 years’ experience, we will play a leading role in this work.

While we are exceedingly grateful for your hard work so far, you need to be mindful of your own well-being and that of family and loved ones as this is going to be a long haul.

This tragedy will affect us all in different ways at different times. We have services on hand to help should you or your family need them (see below for contact details).

Please use them. This is not a time to be macho. It is not a weakness to ask for help, it is a strength to recognise that you or a family member needs help.

Stay safe, keep well, kia kaha – be strong.

Once again, thank you from the Board and management. We will keep you informed in the days and weeks ahead.

N D MILLER
Managing Director
