Wellington Police warn of intimidating tree trimmers

Wellington Police warn of intimidating tree trimmers

Police are warning Johnsonville residents to beware if they get a knock on the door from a group of people claiming to be tree trimmers.

Sergeant Vaughan Mead of Johnsonville Police says members of the public have this week alerted Police to a group of people who are targeting elderly residents in the Johnsonville and Churton Park areas, offering to trim trees for a competitive price.

"What we know is that when they have approached residents who have declined their offer to trim their trees, they then become very persistent and intimidating. The cost is also very high for the work involved."

The group are described as Pacific Islanders, believed to be driving a white ute.

Vaughan Mead says, "We want people to beware and phone Police if they see this group in their neighbourhood or have had any visits of this nature recently, which will help Police to put a stop to this unwanted behaviour"

Anyone with any information on the identities of these people should also phone Police on either (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
