Rugby World Cup 2011 Roadshow is coming to Christchurch

Christchurch people will be able to get a taste of the excitement of Rugby World Cup 2011 when the RWC 2011 Roadshow arrives in the city on Saturday 9 July.

The RWC 2011 Roadshow, which is touring 27 towns and cities across New Zealand, will be at Tower Junction, corner of Blenheim Road and Foster Street, from 10am to 1pm.

The RWC 2011 Roadshow will include a custom-designed truck, which opens into a 72 square metre events centre and will feature interactive displays and videos on Rugby World Cup history and legends. Outside the truck, a marquee area will preview some of the REAL New Zealand Festival experiences on offer during RWC 2011. The festival will be a celebration of New Zealand arts, food and wine, heritage, culture, entertainment, business and lifestyle.

Visitors to the Roadshow will also be able to have their photos taken with the Webb Ellis Cup, win or buy RWC 2011 tickets and find out the different ways they can be part of the Tournament. Visitors to the Roadshow who dress up as one of the 19 teams who will be visiting the country during the Tournament will be in with a chance to win a prize for the best dressed. They will also be eligible to win two tickets for both quarter finals in Auckland. House of Travel will fly the two winners up to Auckland from Christchurch and provide accommodation. Rugby Travel and Hospitality will provide pre-match entertainment for both matches.

Although there will no longer be any RWC 2011 matches in Christchurch, fans will have the opportunity to be part of the Tournament action at the Christchurch Events Village in North Hagley Park. This will house an official ‘Fanzone’ and numerous REAL New Zealand Festival events, including the Christchurch Arts Festival and the Body Festival, from 9 September to 23 October. A large inflatable Dome will be transformed into the ‘Ruck’ and rugby fans will be able to watch matches live on big screens in the nearby Stadium.

Christchurch City Council Marketing Manager Richard Stokes says the RWC 2011 Roadshow will be a great opportunity for Christchurch people to start getting excited about the events coming in September and October.

“A fantastic programme of events is planned and this Roadshow will be a great opportunity for people to get a taste of what’s in store,” he says.
