Three Wellington city officers praised for their quick-thinking in volatile situation
Three Wellington city officers are being praised for their quick-thinking late yesterday afternoon to help diffuse a potentially life-threatening situation in Courtenay Place.
Acting Wellington District Commander Inspector Richard Chambers says at about 4:30pm, Police were called to an incident in an office on the sixth floor of a building, where a woman was threatening another woman with a knife.
"When the three officers arrived, they ran up six flights of stairs, as that was the safer tactical option, to assess the situation. They then found a woman restraining the victim with one hand and holding a knife to her throat, with the other hand."
Inspector Chambers says after communication with the offender had no effect, the officers decided to taser her.
"The knife was dropped and the victim released, preventing her from serious harm. I applaud the actions of these three officers, whose quick thinking diffused a potentially dangerous situation."
A 33 year old woman has been charged with threatening to kill, assault with a weapon and possession of an offensive weapon. She has appeared in the Wellington District Court today.
Further enquiries into the matter are continuing to determine what sparked the incident.
