Canterbury keen to rope in recycled wire
Environment Canterbury’s river works depot at Temuka is looking for new sources of used wire rope.
Every year thousands of metres of wire rope are used for river protection work throughout South Canterbury, Depot supervisor Paul Eddy says.
Most of the larger diameter wire rope is sourced from fishing and forestry companies but smaller rope from old irrigators is also welcomed.
“We are keen to be able to recycle this wire for use on river protection works such as groynes, anchoring trees and layering. We can even make use of shorter lengths, one or two metre long that might otherwise just go to waste.”
Mr Eddy says not only would re-using the wire rope be an ideal way to put recycling principles in action but could also help keep costs to ratepayers down.
Anyone with wire rope to spare can contact Mr Eddy at the Temuka works depot .
