Rugby Boy’s Fame to Widen
Rugby Boy’s Fame to Widen
Dunedin (Monday, July 11): ‘Lachie Scrummage’ is about to become a regular in every Dunedin classroom.
Until now known only as Rugby Boy, he has been coloured in and sent around the world, and will soon be a temporary tattoo for every Dunedin primary school child, and have his own line of merchandise – featuring on prize rugby balls for Dunedin’s SPIN IT WIDE schools’ programme.
A city-wide school competition was held to give Rugby Boy a name, and an entry from Room 1 at St Bernadettes School was selected as the winner from the hundreds that came in.
‘Lachie’ is the face of the SPIN IT WIDE Dunedin schools’ programme and features on virtually every page of the programme’s booklet that outlines the six countries Dunedin will host during RWC 2011. The booklet is being delivered to all Dunedin primary schools in the first week of term three, along with temporary tattoos of ‘Lachie’, and complements the national RWC 2011 Education Programme released this month.
For their part in giving Lachie his name, Room 1 will be given a private tour of Otago Stadium on 10 August, along with a kick-around on the soon to be internationally famous covered ground with one of the SPIN IT WIDE Dunedin ambassadors Kees Meeuws or John Leslie.
