Wellington burglary leaves victim extremely shaken

Mount Cook, Wellington burglary leaves victim extremely shaken

Wellington Police are investigating a burglary to a Drummond Street house in Mount Cook in the early hours of Friday 15 July 2011, which has left the female victim extremely shaken.

Detective Sergeant Fleur de Bes of the Wellington CIB says a female occupant at the address awoke at around 3:15am to find a male lying on top of her. The female bravely fought off her attacker and chased him from her address.

"We believe the intruder has left on foot, as no vehicle was heard leaving the address by the victim."

Detective Sergeant De Bes says it appears the intruder may have entered the address through an unlocked window and Police remind residents to ensure all windows and doors are secured each evening before going to bed.

"This was an extremely frightening and serious incident for the woman concerned and we urge anyone who may have seen anything or anyone suspicious in Drummond Street in the early hours of Friday 15 July to phone us. At this stage, a description is the offender is unknown."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
