Auckland Transport bus and transit lane review is great news

20 July 2011

Auckland Transport bus and transit lane review is great news for motorists

The AA has welcomed Auckland Transport’s review of the region’s bus and transit lanes.

“Auckland Transport has announced today a number of very sensible initiatives to deal with the region’s current bus and transit lane problems,” says the AA Auckland Transport Spokesperson, Simon Lambourne.

“The AA is particularly pleased to see there will be improvements to lane signage and road markings, and that there will be consistency across the region.”

“Motorists have been confused about the rules relating to the lanes, and it is great news that Auckland Transport will be placing greater emphasis in the future on communicating with motorists and educating them about the lanes, particularly when new ones are introduced.”

“The idea of including bus lane elements in the official road code is also an excellent one, and the AA will be supporting this initiative.”

“The current $150 penalty for illegally using the lanes is grossly disproportionate to the offence, and the AA will work with Auckland Transport and central government to review the infringement amount to a more appropriate amount.”

“The AA is also delighted to see that Auckland Transport will address the ongoing concerns relating to the Grafton Bridge bus lanes by improving the signage.”

“This bus and transit review is great news for motorists, and the AA congratulates Auckland Transport for the work it has undertaken,” says Mr Lambourne.
