CHRISTCHURCH, 1 AUGUST 2011 – AirAsia X has added four new destinations to its popular Fly-Thru services from Christchurch, which allow guests to book a connecting fare on the airline group’s extensive network and enjoy the convenience of a single check-in, baggage transfer, and without a need for a transit visa at Kuala Lumpur.

The four new Fly-Thru destinations available for immediate bookings are Christchurch to Hong Kong, Macau, Phuket and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The new destinations bring the total number of Fly-Thru destinations from New Zealand to sixteen, which includes London, Paris, Bangkok, Chengdu, Mumbai, New Delhi, Singapore, Taipei and Bali.

New Zealand guests travelling on Fly-Thru will fly to Kuala Lumpur with the group’s long-haul airline, AirAsia X and connect onwards to AirAsia X long-haul destinations to China, Europe, India, and Taiwan or connect onwards to AirAsia’s short-haul destinations within South-East Asia to countries like Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani said the airline was able to offer Fly-Thru services where forward flights have a connecting time of between 90 minutes and six hours.

“These fares are very convenient for our guests because they can connect to their next flight without the need for immigration clearance or a transit visa in Malaysia. The service also eliminates the need to re-check luggage when connecting to the next flight to the final destination.”

Azran said the airline’s Fly-Thru service allowed it to offer fast and convenient connections to New Zealand guests.

“We’re pleased to be adding to our available Fly-Thru connections and will continue to review our network to see where we can add even more options in the future.”
