Arrest in Tory Street, Wellington serious assault last week

Wellington Police have charged a 20 year old man in connection to a serious assault in Tory Street in the early hours of Thursday 15 September 2011.

A 25 year old Kapiti man remains in Wellington Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in a serious condition following the assault, which occurred at around 3:50am last Thursday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard of the Wellington CIB says the 20 year old has been charged with a Crimes Act assault a short time ago and will be appearing in the Wellington District Court tomorrow morning.

“We would like to thank members of the public for assisting Police in our investigation. Our enquiries are continuing and we would still like to locate and speak to two witnesses, both Pacific Island males, aged in their early to mid twenties who were in the vicinity of Tory Street at the time of the incident.”

One of them was of medium to solid build, around six foot tall, with brown spiky hair, wearing dark blue or black jeans, a blue or green t-shirt and white shoes, with a tribal tattoo on his right arm.

Anyone with any information should contact the Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
