MEDIA RELEASE
Tuesday, 27 September 2011

New Auckland Cricket CEO Mark Cameron will be trading one sport for another when he takes up the role at the beginning of November.

Cameron is currently the CEO for the Northern Mystics netball franchise and has overseen their formation right up to their first appearance in the grand final this season.

He has a long history of being involved with the business side of sport having formerly been a director and owner of the Planet Sports indoor franchise as well as being General Manager of the New Zealand Basketball League for three years.

Cameron commented that he was excited about the role and looking forward to getting to grips with a new sport.

"It's a wonderful opportunity and I'm delighted to have been chosen to head an organization in great health and with some fantastic people involved. There are definitely some challenges ahead but I think also some great opportunities within the game for exciting development."

Auckland Cricket Board Chairman Rex Smith welcomed Cameron on board.

"We're very pleased to have such a high quality individual for this crucial role in the organization and we feel his experience in the commercial side of the sports business will prove a real asset."

Cameron will commence his role at Auckland Cricket on Monday, November 7.
