New Zealand Coffee Lovers to Enjoy Award Winning Coffee
Wellington based Coffee Supreme is one of very few roasters internationally that has access to the Cup of Excellence(R) award winning coffees for 2011. Started in 1993 and one of the largest specialty roasters in New Zealand, Coffee Supreme outbid several other companies for the right to own and sell coffee from both Nicaragua's and El Salvador's Cup of Excellence auctions.
"Even in uncertain economic times, this is a clear sign that farmer-identified, exceptional coffees with unique flavor profiles are very much appreciated by coffee connoisseurs in New Zealand," explained Susie Spindler, Executive Director of The Alliance for Coffee Excellence Inc., the non-profit managers of the premier, competition for the world's finest coffees.
Mario Jose Viches Urbina won a place in the Nicaragua competition with a coffee that was characterized as having crisp, citric notes, a banana and pear like sweetness, loads of chocolate flavor with great balance and a sweet apple finish. The farm, Santa Gema is a small family farm located in Nueva Segovia, a popular coffee growing region in Nicaragua.
A third generation coffee farmer, Rafael Duch Martinez, won a place in El Salvador's competition with coffee from La Nueva, a farm in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec region of the smaller country of El Salvador. This coffee is the famous Bourbon variety and has been described as having lovely jasmine aroma, lively sweet flavor characteristics full of chocolate, plums and grapes and ending with buttery, smooth body.
Coffee Supreme, with locations in Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Melbourne, Australia purchased both entire winning lots and is the only company authorized to sell these particular Cup of Excellence coffees. To find these coffees log on to http://www.coffeesupreme.com
Since 1999, the Cup of Excellence competition has been hosted in Brazil, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Colombia and Rwanda with future expansion planned. Each competition is open to all farmers in a producing country with no fee attached for the first entry.
