Cycle Challenge info for motorists around Lake Taupo
This Saturday 26 November, in excess of 10,000 people will participate in the Great Lake Cycle Challenge around Lake Taupo.
This annual event attracts cyclists with a variety of levels and abilities.
Taupo Police ask that all motorists travelling around Lake Taupo on this day take extra care due to the increased number of cyclists. Wherever possible people should avoid travelling along State Highways 1, 32 and 41 on this day.
"If people do have to travel this day please be prepared for delays and be patient if you encounter cyclists. Traffic management plans and marshalls will be in place around the course," says Senior Sergeant Fane Troy, Taupo Road Policing Group.
Senior Sergeant Troy says there are a small number of enduro riders who will be completing up to eight laps of the Lake Taupo course.
"These riders will have support vehicles but motorists need to be aware that these competitors are on the course prior to 26 November."
Taupo Police wish all participants the best of luck and hope that they enjoy their day.
