Wellington Council on camera car case
[Standard message to callers and correspondents:]
Thank you for your feedback regarding media coverage of the court case involving Anne Reeves and the Council’s camera car.
From the City Council's point of view, the media coverage of the case is seriously biased and does not present the true story.
The Court found the case was proved beyond reasonable doubt.
The judgement stated “the warden’s evidence compelling as to fact, and the defendant’s explanation somewhat tenuous at best” – key points that the DomPost is reluctant to highlight.
The judgement also notes that the defendant's car was parked on the broken yellow lines well before the camera car in fact entered Sydney Street West.
The judgment also notes that the defendant has been previously caught offending in a similar way at the same location. Previous tickets were waived as a gesture of goodwill.
There are always two sides to a story – unfortunately the media in this case is determined to only project one side.
