Auckland Council financial performance on track
Auckland Council is on target with its
programme to save $81 million this financial year while
still continuing to invest in the city’s future.
“At the start of this financial year we set an ambitious goal for making major savings and I am very impressed to see we are currently achieving it,” said Cr Richard Northey, chair of council’s Accountability and Performance Committee.
“I am very pleased that we are also able to continue to invest in projects that advance the city and doing it within the 3.9 per cent rate increase for the 2011/12 year – down from the nine per cent forecast we inherited from the legacy councils.”
For the year to date, the council’s net financial result is within $2.7m of its forecast portion – just 0.15 per cent of total expenditure.
The organisation’s financial overview for the past eight months to February 2012 was presented to the committee today along with the six month reports from the council’s council-controlled organisations and Watercare Services Ltd.
Highlights during that time
include:
• The first 15 cadets engaged in work
experience at council as part of a partnership with the
Ministry of Social Development
• 410,000 visitors to
the Sculpture in the Gardens event at the Auckland Botanic
Gardens
• The refurbished Fickling Convention Centre
and Mt Roskill Library reopened
• Auckland Council’s
Annual Plan 2011/12 won the Innovation category at the CFO
Awards.
