Visit For Deputy Mayor
Queenstown Lakes District Council Deputy Mayor Lyal Cocks will head to Korea tomorrow on an all-expense paid whirlwind trip to the City of Ulsan.
A delegation, including the Deputy Mayor of Ulsan visited Queenstown in August and a Memorandum of Understanding around knowledge exchange entered into.
“It was raised at the time that the city was hosting a summit around sustainable mountain tourism in October and they expressed a desire that we have someone attend,” Deputy Mayor Cocks said.
Mr Cocks said the visit would not have been contemplated or possible if ratepayer money was involved.
“Ulsan has made a very generous offer, which will enable our Council to rub shoulders with some leading mountain resorts from China, Japan and Switzerland. I will be there to contribute but will also take the opportunity to absorb learning’s from the likes of Hebei, Toyama and Engelberg, not to mention Ulsan itself,” Deputy Mayor Cocks said.
The trip would see Mr Cocks fly out of New Zealand tomorrow, spend Friday and Saturday in Ulsan before returning home on Sunday.
During the two-day visit, Mr Cocks would participate in a congress with other dignitaries, meet privately with the Mayor of Ulsan and attend a festival and exhibition
