Bag a bargain at library book sale

Media release

10 June 2013

Bag a bargain at library book sale

There is such a thing as a library with too many books! Next week Auckland Libraries will hold its popular bi-annual book sale at the Central City Library.

Geoff Chamberlain, Manager Local Libraries Central, says there will be a wide range of books, CDs, DVDs and magazines priced at $1 and $2.

"To keep the collections at all of our libraries fresh, we buy a great deal of new items each year.

“We also withdraw duplicate and worn copies that are no longer required, so there will be thousands of withdrawn books, CDs, DVDs and magazines for sale at very low prices.

"Our book sales are extremely popular and there is something for everyone among the withdrawn items," he says.

It's not just the Auckland public who benefit from the library's need to refresh books. Throughout the year, withdrawn items are also donated to retirement homes, prisons, the Variety Club of New Zealand and various Pacific Islands.

The sale starts on Monday 24 June and will continue until Sunday 30 June unless all stock is gone before the week is up.
