Sing Out Against Teen Violence

Teenagers (13 to 18) can raise their voices rather than their fists, with the first Eastern Bay of Plenty Anti Violence Song Quest.

Family Works, EBOP Family Violence Network, together with “It’s Not OK” says registrations for the ‘Yeah Nah It’s NOT OK’ are filling up fast for the August 17th competition, to be held at the Liberty Centre, Whakatane. Acts are so far from Murupara, Opotiki, Edgecumbe, Kawerau and Whakatane.

The winner will receive a package that includes recording and broadcasting their song as part of a wider “It’s Not OK” campaign. Their school will receive $1000 cash.

A chance to cut a CD with 8 hours recording studio time, Stan Walker tickets and a rafting trip – make for a very enticing prize package for the teens.

“At Family Works, we recognise that to affect change in the family violence statistics we need to also raise awareness of the It’s Not OK message in our young people. The Yeah Nah song quest has been an opportunity for numerous organisations to work towards giving our young people a voice about the impact of family violence on them,” Family Works, BOP Service Manager, Janice Belgrave says.
