Who is the Albany car jacker?

Who is the Albany car jacker?

Police investigating a car-jacking in Albany want to know who the person pictured is.

He is believed to have been involved in the incident that occurred shortly after midnight this morning after the owner of a 1999 Nissan Skyline with the registration plate STIG was forced out of his car at gunpoint after agreeing to give two strangers a ride from McDonald's in Colisseum Drive in Albany.

The victim drove a man and woman past North Harbour Stadium on Don Mckinnon Drive and towards the nearby Park and Ride.  At the roundabout at the intersection with Munroe Lane, the male asked to get out of the car for a comfort stop.  The victim circled the roundabout and parked up on Don McKinnon Drive facing back toward the stadium.

The unknown male slipped a firearm from beneath his jacket and, pointing it at the victim, ordered him from the car.  The victim got out and watched his now, stolen vehicle, heading back toward McDonald's.

The victim flagged down a passing vehicle and used the driver's phone to call Police.

The attached image is of a man who had earlier ordered food inside McDonald's.

Anyone who knows who he is should call or txt Detective Sergeant James Watson on 021 191 4386 or e-mail james.watson@police.govt.nz
