Final update from crash - Napier -Taupo Road - Eastern
**Update 2 ** 11.30 am

The last person has finally been extracted from the crashed van and will soon be flown to Hawkes Bay Hospital. There are currently 5 already at hospital with the 6 month old baby and one adult in a critical condition. The remaining people are in a serious but not life threatening condition.

It is not known if the van occupants are all family members and this information will not be confirmed until they are spoken to at hospital. It is known that the van was travelling south towards Napier when the crash happened.

It is hoped that police will have one lane open by 11:15am and then have road fully open by midday.

A further media alert will be made once the road is fully open.

Any further media enquiries regarding the occupants and cause of accident etc, should now be directed to Hawkes Bay Police. The contact there is Senior Sergeant Stuart Fleming and he can be contacted on 06-8730500. He will be avaialble until 4pm. Please don't ring him until after 12pm as he is trying to gather some more information.
