Doing Business Better Project for Kopu

Doing Business Better Project for Kopu.

We're looking at how we can retain existing businesses while attracting newcomers in the Kopu and Kaiwhenua areas through our Kopu Doing Business Better programme.

Kopu is the best piece of industrial and commercial development on the Coromandel. It is a central location to three major cities (Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga).

A working group has been set up with representation from our staff, NZTA, WRC, iwi and the Kopu Land Owners Association and alongside BECA it has produced a draft Kopu Development Plan which has been submitted to Council’s Proposed District Plan.

We’ve also started storm water modelling to reduce costs for potential developers and we’re now proposing some land acquisition for storm water retention, which will be consulted on during our Long Term Plan (2015-2025).

The Kopu Development Group, made up of the local business association, has also been set up to look at marketing and investment opportunities within Kopu.

Meanwhile Chorus has also confirmed that two cabinets are now part of the government’s Rural Broadband Initiative to be upgraded at Kopu and there is also plenty of spare fibre available for businesses wanting fibre services.

If you’re interested in setting up a business at Kopu or wanting to talk business opportunities on theCoromandel email Greg Hampton and for updates and to read the draft Kopu Development Concept Plan and Marketing and Investment plan click here.
