Three seriously injured in "huffing" explosion

At about 8:20 pm on Moday 20 October 3 people went to the Papakura Police station for help after suffering serious burns in a gas explosion at an address in Sheehan Ave Papakura. Ambulance were called and the three were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The fire service and police went to the scene and concluded that the explosion happened when people at the address were "huffing" - inhaling propane gas for recreational purposes - when the gas ignited.

No further details of the victims are available.
Police once again emphasis the danger of this type of activity, both from the effect of inhaling gas or othe rsubstances on the body, and the extreme risk of explosion and fire involved.
