Girl Critically Injured After Being Hit by Motorcycle

The Rotorua based BayTrust Rescue helicopter was dispatched to Lake Rotoma at around 8pm Sunday evening to attend an accident which saw a young girl struck by a motorcycle.

State Highway 30, where the accident occurred, was closed for a period of time to allow emergencies services to attend to the young girl and clear a suitable landing site for the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter. The young girl was transported to Rotorua Hospital in a critical condition.

The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was despatched due to the serious nature of the girls injuries and the need for quick transportation.

Prior to this the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter had just returned from Ruatahuna where a sick infant was attended to by the Rescue Helicopter and a St John Ambulance crew.

Philips Search and Rescue Trust is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on support from principal sponsors and community donations. Special thanks to Rotorua's principal sponsor, BayTrust. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopters can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel and trauma-trained medics directly to the patient.
