END VIOLENCE FOR CANTERBURY - White Ribbon Day Campaign 2014
On the 12th of November 2014 the Canterbury Family Violence Collaboration along with its partners Canterbury Police, Corrections, Christchurch District Health Board and the Christchurch City Council will launch the #EndViolence4Canterbury social media campaign in the lead up to White Ribbon Day on the 25th of November.
“We want people in Canterbury to show their commitment to ending violence in Canterbury and solidarity with White Ribbon Day by taking a selfie with our I Stand Up Against Violence sign and then sharing and promoting the post with friends on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #EndViolence4Canterbury” says Jo Taylor-de Vocht Communications and Marketing Coordinator for the Canterbury Family Violence Collaboration.
“The aim of the campaign is to promote awareness about the problem of violence in Canterbury and to continue to work towards a culture change where the whole community agrees that violence in any form is totally unacceptable” says Ms Taylor-de Vocht.
Some of Canterbury Police’s Dogs are kick-starting the #EndViolence4Canterbury with their own ‘sort of’ selfie. To join the campaign follow the Christchurch Police on Facebook and post and share your own selfie with the #EndViolence4Canterbury www.facebook.com/ChristchurchPolice ; www.twitter.com/NZPCanterbury. Signs can be printed from the collaboration’s website www.canterburyfvc.co.nz/get-involved/white-ribbon-2014/.
“White Ribbon Day on the 25 November is Canterbury’s chance to take a stand against violence” says Andy Moscrop-Giblin, a Spokesperson for the Canterbury Family Violence Collaboration and New Zealand White Ribbon Ambassador.
“In Canterbury we experience a high level of family violence, in 2012 Police investigated 7,400 incidents involving family violence; this equates to 19 investigated incidents each day.
The Canterbury earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 and the resulting loss of life, injury and massive damage to key infrastructure and services have strongly increased the risk factors fuelling these worrying statistics."
“On White Ribbon Day we are standing together against violence in Canterbury with a community march from Christchurch Central Police Station beginning at 9:45am, come and join us!” says Mr Moscrop-Giblin.
