Body found on Mount Maunganui
At about 7:15pm on
Sunday, Police were called by a member of the public who
located the deceased body of an adult male on the northern
face of Mount Maunganui.
The deceased was located midway up the side of the mountain in thick bush. Due to the remote location of the scene Search and Rescue and Fire were called to assist Police in the recovery of the deceased.
The walking tracks around the mount were closed for the duration of the operation until the deceased was recovered from the mountain at about 11:30pm.
An investigation is underway to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances around the death. The matter has been referred to the coroner. Media enquiries should be referred Tauranga Police. Senior Sergeant Shannon CLIFFORD Western Bay Of Plenty Area Police.
