Canterbury Police speak to missing French tourist

Canterbury Police have located Celine, the French tourist who was unaccounted for in Arthurs Pass, safe and well in Te Anau.

A Police officer from Te Anau met up with Celine this morning and confirmed she was the same person that had left a note with her bag in a backpackers in Arthurs Pass last week.

It would appear that Celine forgot to remove the note when she collected her bag and the note has remained with her spare sleeping bag which she left behind as she no longer needed it.

Canterbury Police SAR would like to thank the public and media for their help in identifying and locating Celine.

This incident highlights the importance of accommodation suppliers obtaining the contact details of travellers using their facility.

Over the summer season Canterbury Police SAR urge anyone who is heading out on a fishing trip, hunt, tramp, climb or day walk to make sure someone reliable knows where you are going and when you are intending to return. This incident is a timely reminder of the importance of telling that person that you have returned safely.
