"Serious crash SH35 Opapae - Serious crash SH35 Opapae - Bay of Plenty"

A serious crash between a car and a motor cycle has happened on SH35 at Opape which is on the East Cape side of Opotiki.

The motor cyclist is status 1 and is being air lifted by helicopter to hospital.

The serious crash unit is in attendance.

A diversion is in place at Opapake via a narrow metal road but this is only suitable for cars.

Trucks are stationary and are advised to avoid using SH35 on the East Cape until the road is cleared.

An update will be provided when an ETA is available re when the road is likely to be opened.

The gender of the rider is unknown as is the hospital the rider is being taken to.
