Accident, Police Seek Witnesses - Nth Canterbury

Accident - Nth Canterbury - National Alerts

23 January 2015 Police appeal for witnesses to Tram Rd crash Canterbury Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash shortly after 7am this morning at the McHughs/Tram Road intersection.

The 19 year old driver of a yellow Nissan 300 stopped at the intersection and started to turn right to travel east-bound along Tram Road when his vehicle collided with a blue Nissan Terrano that was travelling westbound.

The 19 year old man had to be freed from his vehicle by the Fire Service.

He was taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance for treatment for minor injuries to his chest, head and legs.

The other driver, a 27 year old female, was uninjured.

Sergeant Graeme Crosson said “Both drivers were wearing safety belts which helped to minimise their injuries.

Road conditions were dry with low sun at the time of the crash.

We are keen to hear from anyone else who was driving east-bound along Tram road this morning and may have seen either vehicle prior to the crash.” Police investigations into the crash are continuing. This is a timely reminder to all road users to take extra care at intersections, particularly around sunrise/sunset when the sun is low in the sky.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or was driving along Tram Road at around 7am this morning is asked to call Rangiora Police Station on 03 313 6167. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. ENDS Issued by: Lisa-Marie Brooks, District Communications Manager, Canterbury Police District.
