36,000 hit the waterfront for Port's of Auckland open day

SeePort Interim Media Release

26 January 2015

36,000 hit the waterfront for Port's of Auckland open day

36,000 people came to Captain Cook wharf on the first two days of Ports of Auckland's open weekend. This is more than double the numbers of last year's event, with one more day to do.

With loads of free, family friendly fun, similar numbers are expected for today, Auckland Anniversary Day.

Ports of Auckland CEO Tony Gibson was delighted with the numbers.

"We put on this event each year to give Aucklanders a bit of fun on the waterfront and a taste of what it takes to run a port. We had 18,000 visitors last year so to double that already this year is just brilliant."

There is plenty more on offer today. There are bus and boat tours of the port still available - just bring a photo ID and sign up on site. There are free amusement rides, displays of port machinery and from our maritime and logistics industry partners. Scouts and the New Zealand Defence Force have activities available, or you can just come down and sit on a dock in the bay to watch the fun at the Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta.
