Manurewa to host Guinness World Record Ice-Cream event

Manurewa to host Guinness World Record Ice-Cream event

Manurewa will be hosting a Guinness World Record attempt at this Saturday’s Manurewa community day, where an attempt will be made to create the world’s longest ice-cream sundae.

The Manurewa community is hoping to break the current Guinness World Record for ice-cream sundae length of 540.14m which is held by Solivita, a village in Florida.

Tip Top will be supplying over 2000 litres of ice-cream which over 600 volunteers will scoop to create a 600-metre long ice-cream sundae.

“School pupils, local community groups, businesses, and over 600 volunteers from the community will be joining the attempt,” says Simeon Brown the Deputy Chair of the Manurewa Local Board.

“We’ve got over 600 registrations already to help build the 600-metre long ice-cream as it will certainly be a race against the clock to get it done before the ice-cream starts melting.

“It’s not your average community event and that’s the beauty of it. Our Community Fun Day is about bringing locals together in a fun atmosphere to engage and build relationships.

“Schools, businesses and community groups are already engaging and working together on this project, so win or lose on the day we’ve definitely achieved our aim.

"Tip Top is excited to be supporting this great community event. As a nation of ice cream lovers it makes sense for this Guinness World Record attempt to be held here in New Zealand," says Tip Top group marketing manager Minna Reinikala.

Gordon Campbell: On Dune 2, And Images Of Islam

Depictions of Islam in Western popular culture have rarely been positive, even before 9/11. Five years on from the mosque shootings, this is one of the cultural headwinds that the Muslim community has to battle against. Whatever messages of tolerance and inclusion are offered in daylight, much of our culture tends to be hostile to Islam when we’re sitting in the dark, with popcorn.
Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
