Police and emergency
services were called to the scene of a water rescue at Port
Waikato near Ngahinapouri Island at about three pm on
Sunday.
Four people had been swept down the Waikato River
after the vessel they were in overturned.
Three persons
were taken safely onto shore by Coastguard rescue and were
then taken to Middlemore Hospital for treatment. A fourth
person is confirmed deceased at the scene.
