Iconic Auckland Cafe, Good One, To Close

Iconic Auckland Cafe, Good One, To Close

Today, Tuesday 23rd June 2015, Coffee Supreme announced the forthcoming closure of its iconic cafe, Good One. Located in residential Ponsonby since 2008, Good One has showcased Coffee Supreme to Auckland city. In the years it has been open, Good One has won over a new generation of fans for the independently owned roastery, along with earning both media acclaim and industry admiration.

Coffee Supreme will continue to operate out of its regional headquarters located on West Terrace, Central Auckland. The coffee company is already well established in the market serving its prospering wholesale customer base and is preparing for additional investment in the Auckland region.

Coffee Supreme will retain its Supreme Seafarers cafe located at 52 Tyler St, Britomart.

Good One is closing as its lease has expired. The last day of trade will be July 12th, 5015.

The full transcript of Coffee Supreme’s announcement follows:

Just over a decade ago, Supreme set sail for the city of sails, signed the lease on a shabby warehouse down a skinny side street in Ponsonby, and set about establishing itself as a trusted coffee roaster in Auckland.

A key part in that process was the establishment of Good One.

Until Good One, Supreme was really known only to loyal ex-Wellingtonians and a few faithful friends of friends grumbling about how the locals drank their coffee from glasses.

Building the spotty table and rolling up the garage door allowed Supreme the chance to show some hospitality, giving it a much needed tangible, visible presence in the city that loved to see and be seen.

It has since become, arguably, one of the country’s most popular and recognisable cafes.

However, all good things must come to an end, and in Good One’s case, the lease wasn’t far behind. With the term drawing to a close, and a rent increase that made a kitchen-less cafe commercially challenging, we’ve decided to set a date to wind the roller door down and quit while they were ahead.

The final trading day for Good One will be Sunday July 12th when we’ll serve up our last flat whites in the Good One site. Don’t worry, we’ll go out with a bang, with our last day a chance to show our final piece of generosity. Look out for some familiar faces, as ex-staff prepare to cameo in the lead up to what will be a closing ceremony tinged with sadness.

Good One has been a an amazing journey: we’ve made an amazing bunch of friends, hosted folks from the world over, and really are delighted at just how many hearts we’ve won over with the Good One experience.

Thanks for having us Auckland, you’ve been a great host.

As sad as we are to put the roller door down for the last time, we’re pretty excited about what our next hospitality move in this city will be.

The best is yet to come.

Good Bye, Good One

Cheers

Al & Co.
