Aggravated Robbery ASB - Kilbirnie - Wellington

Aggravated Robbery ASB - Kilbirnie - Wellington

Wellington Police have arrested and charged a 33 year old male with two bank robberies, one of the charges relate to the aggravated robbery of the ASB Bank in Kilbirnie that occurred at 4.30pm on the 12th of June 2015.

The other robbery occurred at the BNZ in Papatoetoe on the 7th of April 2015.

In both incidents the male threatened the tellers with a knife and demanded that he be given money.

He managed to obtain a small amount of money from both banks.

No one was hurt at either incident but staff at both banks were severely distressed.

Late yesterday afternoon Police arrested a male when they were called to an unrelated incident in Miramar.

Police Officers who attended the incident recognised the male as being the same male captured on both banks CCTV footage during the aggravated robberies. Detective Sergeant Haley RYAN said the arrest of the 33 year old male was good investigative work by frontline staff and their good work will prevent this man from committing any further robberies and ultimately ensuring the community’s continual safety. The 33 year old male appeared at the Wellington District Court this morning and was remanded in custody.
