Body found during search for missing trampers

26 July 2015

An aerial search was conducted by Police along the Kepler Track, Fiordland National Park, in the search for Louis-Vincent LESSARD and Etienne LEMIEUX.

At about 4pm, in an area between the Hanging Valley Hut and the Iris Burn Hut, Police located the body of one male.

The male was found within a field of avalanche debris and is about 350 metres below the Kepler track proper.

Weather in the area is inclement but plans are in pace for an assessment on Monday morning to undertake a ground based search and recovery operation.

Identity of the male is not confirmed at this time.

Next of kin of the two missing Canadian Nationals have been advised of this information.
